Praia, March 31 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Culture and Creative Industries, Augusto Veiga, announced today in Praia that the status of cultural professionals will only include artists residing in the country and with more than two years of activity in the national market.

The minister, speaking at a press conference on the approval of the bill establishing the Statute for Art and Culture Creators and Producers, described the initiative as a “historic milestone” for the sector.

According to the ministry’s figures, more than 200 artists are currently working legally in Cabo Verde, a significant increase compared to the pandemic period, when only 33 were registered with the National Social Security Institute (INPS).

“I think the expectations are very positive. We know it won’t be easy, because it’s still a very informal sector, not only on the part of the artists but also on the part of those who hire them, but we’ll do everything we can to provide the structure the sector deserves,” said Augusto Veiga.
