UCID says Government pursued a fragmented, dispersed investment policy dependent on the political calendar

Mindelo, 10 Mar (Inforpress) – The Independent and Democratic Cape Verdean Union (UCID, opposition) stated today in Mindelo that public investment policy over the past decade has been “fragmented and dispersed”, accusing the Government of prioritizing the political calendar to the detriment of structural needs.

The position was defended by MP Dora Pires during a press conference previewing the interpellation to the executive in the National Assembly, whose central theme will be “Public investment policy and infrastructures implemented over the last 10 years”.

According to the parliamentarian, there were “too many announcements and promises” and, in many cases, “projects arrived late, cost more than expected or failed to produce the anticipated economic impact”.

In other cases, she added, national priorities were set aside in favour of “politically convenient choices”.
