Porto Novo, 10 Mar (Inforpress) – The association Terrimar – Environment and Sustainable Development, based in Porto Novo, described this Monday the Topo de Coroa Natural Park, in the Northern Plateau of Santo Antão, as “a treasure of Santo Antão and of Cabo Verde”.
This association, which works in the protection of protected areas in Santo Antão and endangered species, stated that this terrestrial park, the largest in Cabo Verde, with an area of 8,491.6 hectares, hosts 34 endemic plant species.
Within this park lies the Topo de Coroa volcano, the highest point of the island at 1,985 metres in altitude, considered one of the natural wonders of Santo Antão.
This elevation, despite access difficulties, is widely visited by residents of Santo Antão as well as tourists who come to Santo Antão to practise trekking (trail hiking).
