City of Praia, 10 Mar (Inforpress) – The Minister of State and National Defence, Janine Lélis, and the Minister of the Armed Forces of Senegal, General Birame Diop, expressed today in Praia the need to strengthen military cooperation and update the bilateral defence agreement.
Speaking to the press after a meeting between the parties, Janine Lélis explained that the current legal instrument, signed in 2015 and ratified in 2017, requires revision in order to adapt to the rapid changes in the defence sector.
The current agreement covers fundamental areas such as information exchange, training and technical capacity building.
The Cape Verdean minister emphasized that sharing a maritime border imposes increased responsibilities on both States. In this sense, she advocated the holding of joint exercises to ensure security in the Atlantic and combat transnational threats.
