City of Praia, 09 Mar (Inforpress) – The Cape Verdean capital hosted today, at the Presidential Palace, an international conference dedicated to building respect and preventing violations of fundamental rights and gender-based violence (GBV).

The event, held within the framework of the celebrations of March 8 (International Women’s Day), results from a strategic partnership between the National Commission for Human Rights (CNDH), the Cape Verdean Association for the Fight against Gender-Based Violence (ACLVBG), and the international organization Human Rights and Tolerance of Italy.

Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the meeting, the president of the National Commission for Human Rights (CNDH), Eurídice Mascarenhas, stated that the choice of the theme reflects an inclusive vision that “talking about women’s rights is also talking about human rights.”

“The conference emerges as a direct response to a recent study on the perception of rights in Cabo Verde, and we realized that it is necessary to strengthen citizenship, support for victims and proximity with the population,” she said, arguing that it represents another challenge in combating the cultural phenomenon and reinforcing the idea of Zero Tolerance.
