Praia, Mar 02 (Inforpress) – The Attorney General of the Republic warned about the dangers of judicial delays, arguing that they remain one of the greatest challenges facing justice systems, affecting citizens’ trust and requiring measures to ensure greater procedural efficiency.

At the opening of the seminar on Consensual Criminal Justice/Plea Bargaining: Comparative Perspectives between Cabo Verde and the United States, José Landim stressed that judicial delays represent a challenge both nationally and internationally, undermining society’s confidence in the courts and directly affecting socioeconomic development.

“Judicial delay caused by the slowness in procedural processing is a reality long identified; delays in the handling of cases are the subject of multiple debates and constitute a constant concern for justice operators,” he said.

The Attorney General underlined that the Constitution of the Republic guarantees all citizens the right of access to justice and to a decision within a reasonable time, and that it is the State’s responsibility to ensure the necessary means for the courts to fulfill this mission.
