Boa Vista: PAICV describes Prime Minister’s visit as a “rehearsed choreography” and “much ado about nothing”

Sal Rei, Feb 24 (Inforpress) – The president of the Regional Political Commission of the PAICV in Boa Vista, Joel Spencer, today described the Prime Minister’s recent visit to the island as a “rehearsed choreography” of old promises, leaving it with “a handful of nothing.”

At a press conference to react to the official visit of the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, which ended last Sunday, the 22nd, the regional leader of the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV, opposition) stated that although the party acknowledges specific improvements, such as the battery system and commercial expansion at the airport, these serve merely as a “smokescreen.”

“After nearly 10 years of central governance sustained by the MpD, Boa Vista remains deeply neglected with regard to structural works of real impact,” declared Joel Spencer, stating that the government agenda revealed “profound wear.”

According to the PAICV spokesperson on the island, projects such as the paving of the Zona Norte road and the water supply network for Estância de Baixo and Bofareira are “reissues of promises from 2016 and 2018,” whose foundation stones had already been laid in previous terms without the works progressing due to “lack of priority.”
