Sal Island: UCID warns of low voter registration turnout and calls for joint mobilisation by political parties

Espargos, Feb 17 (Inforpress) – The regional president of UCID on Sal Island voiced concern over the low voter registration turnout following a visit to the local Electoral Registration Commission (CRE), advocating improved logistical conditions and a joint mobilisation of political forces.

Speaking to the press at the end of the meeting with the president of the CRE, Aldirley Gomes stated that the island “has shown worrying signs”, recalling that in the last elections abstention reached around 60%.

According to the party leader, the current registration period confirms this trend, with turnout described as “extremely low”, a scenario which, in his view, requires a coordinated response.

“We understand that political parties bear significant responsibility in this matter, not only regarding abstention, but also in relation to the lack of willingness to participate in political and electoral processes,” he stressed.
