Praia, July 24 (Inforpress) - Data on the living conditions of households indicate that 6.7% of the population, aged 4 and over, have never attended an educational establishment and of those who have gone to school, the majority live in urban areas.
A study by the National Statistics Institute (INE) for the year 2024, which included the testimony of 9,918 households from 22 municipalities, shows that of the individuals who attended school, 39.0% were at the basic level of education and only 8.9% attended or were in higher education.
The data indicate that there was “a great disparity” between the population living in urban areas, represented by 10.6%, compared to 3.6% in rural areas, with 7.5% of men and 10.4% of women attending higher education.
In 2024, the literacy rate, that is, the percentage of people aged 15 or over who knew how to read and write, was 88.5%, a higher number in urban areas, at 90.1%, than in rural areas, at 83.5%.
