Santiago Norte: US hosts Macaronesian Nursing Academic Conference to reflect on challenges and practices

Assomada, April 29 (Inforpress) – The coordinator of the nursing course at the University of Santiago (US), host of the IV Macaronesia Nursing Academic Conference, highlighted that the event aims to reflect on the challenges and practices in teaching and practicing nursing.

Cilliavini Afonso was speaking to the press at the university's campus in Bolanha, Assomada, and explained that the event is being held under the slogan “Cooperation, sharing of knowledge and valorisation of nursing education in the Macaronesian Islands”, and is being held in both in-person and hybrid formats, with around 800 people registered.

According to the same source, the aim is to reflect on the challenges and practices in the teaching and practice of nursing, promoting cohesion between higher education institutions in Macaronesia, strengthening partnerships and networks of academic collaboration and providing a space for the exchange of pedagogical and scientific experiences. 

“We're working on the students” dynamics, getting them to realise the importance of research, of having nurses who are also researchers, to get rid of that concept that nurses should only be in hospital, in clinical practice,' he stressed, emphasising that nursing professionals are also scientists and researchers.
