Festivities/São Filipe: Nuías Silva emphasises the strategic role of the diaspora in the country's development

São Filipe, Apr 29 (Inforpress) - The mayor of São Filipe said that the diaspora deserves to be valued much more, because after 50 years of independence, it is time to reflect on its contribution to the development of Cabo Verde.

Nuías Silva's statements were made during a networking meeting with immigrants and businesspeople, which took place on the evening of Monday 28th, in which the mayor emphasised the ‘growing importance’ of the Cape Verdean community abroad, as a ‘pillar of national progress’.

‘The Cape Verdean diaspora is extremely important, and for us the diaspora deserves to be valued much more than it has been,’ he said.

''The progress of Cabo Verde is the result of this intense relationship between those who are here and those who are abroad. 50 years after independence, it is time for us to make a major reflection on the contribution of the diaspora to the development of Cabo Verde in various dimensions and to look ahead to the next 50 years of the relationship," he emphasised.
