Maio Municipal Day: PR congratulates the people of Mai and highlights potential for sustainable development

Porto Inglês, 8 September (Inforpress) – The President of the Republic today congratulated the people of Maio on the occasion of Municipality Day and the Feast of Nossa Senhora da Luz, and highlighted the island’s potential and the challenges that continue to hamper its development.

In a message addressed to the Mayor of Maio, Rely Brito, the local council, and the people of Maio, José Maria Neves expressed his wishes for "prosperity, well-being, and continued progress," appealing for the continuation of efforts to improve living conditions on the island.

The Head of State highlighted progress made in supporting the most vulnerable groups, in basic infrastructure, in urban and environmental regeneration, and in the housing, health, and education sectors.

The President of the Republic also highlighted the rehabilitation of the Porto Inglês Fish Market and other projects which, he stated, could contribute to boosting the local economy, valuing the work of fishermen and fishmongers, and improving conditions in the fishing sector.
