Praia, September 8 (Inforpress) – Cabo Verde can transform remote work into an opportunity for exporting services, allowing qualified professionals to work for international companies without having to emigrate.
Throughout history, many Cape Verdeans have emigrated in search of opportunities abroad, making the diaspora an economic and social extension of Cabo Verde, particularly through the ties they maintain with the country and the remittances they send to their families.
Currently, the emigration of young people has been a cause for concern amongst civil society and policy-makers. In this context, the growth of the digital economy and remote working presents an opportunity to develop ways of retaining and utilising the country’s human capital, thereby contributing directly to the economy.
Data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE) indicates that, in the first half of 2025, 32,177 young people between the ages of 15 and 35 were without employment or training, while 17,961 Cape Verdeans emigrated, mostly young people, of whom more than 12,500 had secondary, intermediate or higher education.
Despite the challenges, Cabo Verde has the conditions to develop services aimed at the international market.
