Lisbon, 30 June (Inforpress) – The president of the Santiago Tourism Association (ATS) argued on Monday that Cabo Verde should capitalise on the international exposure of the Tubarões Azuis at the World Cup to boost the country’s profile as an emerging tourist destination.

Mário Sanches spoke to Inforpress about ATS’s participation in FACIT Turismo 2026, held between 26 and 28 June in Tábua, Portugal, where Cabo Verde took part as a guest destination at the inaugural tourism section of the Tábua Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Fair (FACIT).

“This is a decisive moment, but also a turning point. Rather than simply promoting it, it is essential to develop the tourism product,” he said.

Regarding participation in the fair, he highlighted three main benefits, namely strengthening Cabo Verde’s presence as a guest international destination, learning about models of tourism development – such as the Xisto Villages and the case of Penamacor – and gathering best practices applicable to Santiago.
