São Nicolau: Nilton Monteiro expects a new government that is “friendly” to municipalities and that will resolve transport

Ribeira Brava, 24 July (Inforpress) – The Mayor of Ribeira Brava, Nilton Monteiro, has expressed the hope that Cabo Verde’s new government will be city council-friendly and will pay “special attention” to improving connectivity in São Nicolau.

In statements to Inforpress, regarding the inauguration of the new Government of the Republic, the mayor expressed confidence that the new government team will show greater sensitivity to the concerns of the municipal councils, taking into account the Prime Minister's experience in local government.

“I hope it will be a government that is friendly to the municipalities, especially since the prime minister also comes from the presidency of a municipality, where he himself stated that he felt some pressure from the government. Therefore, one can never expect anything less than a prime minister who is close to the municipal councils,” he said.

According to Nilton Monteiro, São Nicolau – and, in particular, the municipality of Ribeira Brava – is looking forward to progress in various sectors considered strategic for the island’s development, notably transport, health, infrastructure and social policies.
