UNTC-CS says that the election of Janira Hopffer Almada represents a victory for all women

Praia, 19 June (Inforpress) - UNTC-CS today welcomed the election of Janira Hopffer Almada to the presidency of the National Assembly, considering it a historic moment for Cabo Verde and for Cape Verdean women.

In a press release, the National Union of Cape Verdean Workers - Central Trade Union (UNTC-CS) highlighted the fact that Janira Hopffer Almada became, on Thursday 18, the first woman to assume the presidency of the Cabo Verde parliament.Verdean, the second highest position in the state hierarchy, after the President of the Republic.

The group observed that the vote, with 63 approvals out of 72 deputies, marks a significant achievement for all women navigating daily hurdles in their professional, familial, and societal lives.

According to UNTC-CS, Janira Hopffer Almada "did not achieve this position by chance", recalling that she was the first woman elected to lead a political party in Cabo Verde and that she traveled "a long and demanding path".TC/HF
