Praia, June 3 (Inforpress) – PAICV president and Prime Minister-designate Francisco Carvalho stated today that the future Government will foster an environment open to criticism and called for more active participation by civil society in monitoring governance.
The president of the African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV) was speaking to the press during consultations held by the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, with parliamentary parties ahead of the formal appointment, later today, of the new Prime Minister emerging from the 17 May legislative elections.
“We will use this period of governance to pedagogically create an environment that is open to all forms of constructive criticism in order to monitor government action,” he declared, arguing that such an exercise should begin immediately with the final acts of the current Government.
According to the PAICV leader, the country’s development should not depend solely on the actions of political parties but also on the critical and responsible engagement of citizens and civil society organisations.
