The Atlantic Crioulity Summit brings together heads of state, the UN, UNESCO and academics from around the world in Praia

Praia, 27 May (Inforpress) – The International Conference on Atlantic Creolity, organised by the Office of the President of the Republic, will bring together heads of state, representatives from the United Nations, UNESCO and the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), as well as academics and cultural figures from various continents.

According to the programme, the event, which runs from Thursday 28th to Saturday 30th at the University of Cabo Verde under the slogan ‘Building bridges, building a better future’, will kick off with the participation of the Vice-Chancellor of Uni-CV, Elga Carvalho, and the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Alliance of Civilisations, Miguel Ángel Moratinos, as well as video messages from the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, and the President of the Portuguese Republic, António José Seguro.

The opening session will also feature a speech by the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, the main driving force behind the international initiative on Atlantic Creolism.

The morning programme continues with Panel I, on the theme ‘Creolity and its specific characteristics: Kriolidadi pa mi’, bringing together Angola’s Minister of Culture, Filipe Silvino Zau, the Executive Secretary of the CPLP, Maria de Fátima Jardim, UNESCO’s Regional Director for West Africa, Dimitri Sanga, and the Director of Cultural and Sports Development for Réunion Island, Karine Vandersteen.
