Praia, 27 May (Inforpress) – From September, Cabo Verde will have its first Cabo Verde Red Cross (CCCV) Hospital Emergency and Rescue Unit to bolster medical emergency services in the country, the institution’s coordinator for this area announced today.

Júlio Rodrigues, speaking to Inforpress on International Emergency Medicine Day, explained that the CCCV has for some time been working to establish a pre-hospital emergency service, covering rescue and care in critical situations.

According to the coordinator of the CCCV’s Emergency and Rescue Unit, the initiative aims to respond not only to accidents, but also to disasters, epidemics and other situations that threaten human life, enabling a rapid response and reducing the risk of complications and deaths.

“Pre-hospital emergency care is essential for saving lives, reducing risks and ensuring people’s dignity,” he emphasised, pointing out that, despite the introduction of the 112 emergency number and the publication of the National Emergency Plan in 2015, Cabo Verde still lacks an effective pre-hospital service capable of responding rapidly to different incidents.
