Praia, Jul 10 (Inforpress) – The technicians of the energy sector from the CaboVerdean and São Tomé and Príncipe regulators are meeting this Tuesday, July 11, at the first technical meeting on the energy sector and system of the two countries.
Speaking to the press, the chairman of the board of the Multisectoral Regulatory Agency of the Economy (ARME), Isaías Barreto, said that it is a first event of this nature to be carried out within the framework of the Association of Energy Regulators of Portuguese Speaking Countries (RELOP).
“Cabo Verde and São Tomé are two small island countries, are RELOP’s members and the two countries have a multisectoral regulatory entity. Obviously we have many similarities and similar challenges and it is for this reason that we are gathered here in this first meeting,” he said, showing optimism that the event will allow the two agencies to take substantial steps in promoting a regulation of excellence and proximity.
In the energy sector in Cabo Verde, he explained, there is a need to promote greater energy efficiency, adding that the country faces major technical and commercial losses and needs to improve this aspect, which in turn has had a very large impact on consumers.
