Abraão Vicente says that the President of the Republic vetoed his name for ambassador in Lisbon

Praia, Mar 20 (Inforpress) - Deputy Abraão Vicente announced today that José Maria Neves has vetoed his name as Cape Verde's ambassador to Portugal, but the Communication Office of the Presidency of the Republic says it is unaware of the head of state's decision.

‘I inform you that, at the proposal of the head of government, my name was vetoed by the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, for appointment as Cabo Verde's ambassador to Portugal,’ Abraão Vicente wrote today on his Facebook page, adding that the President of the Republic justified the veto because he [Abraão] is ‘in the eye of the political hurricane’.

The former candidate for mayor of Praia also said that he takes this [in the eye of the hurricane] as a ‘compliment’ and adds that although this expression ‘has no legal or constitutional backing, it has become a political criterion that can be used by future presidents’.

Abraão Vicente indicated that he received the news of the veto with ‘the naturalness of someone who had already informed the prime minister’ that his name would not be accepted.
