Praia, Nov 4 (Inforpress) – The mayor of Praia challenged sports authorities to focus on basic training so that the country, particularly the largest municipality in the country, continues to form champions.
Óscar Santos launched this challenge in an interview with Inforpress, at the National Assembly Palace, moments before the Praia Sport Gala, in which he stressed that this year’s theme “10 years honouring our champions” represents an investment made by the local authority throughout of these years in sport, both collective and individual.
He said that Cabo Verde has a very young population and a “great athletic ability”, so he understands that it is “essential to take advantage of this good” if this bet is made on the basic and in young people. The City Hall, he said, has support agreements with various associations, as well as punctually supports international competitions, and said he also hopes to have the Government’s support in this chapter.
“This is the highlight, especially to reward the efforts of athletes, managers, journalists, to raise the city of Praia to a very high level in sport. Hopefully for the year we have more champions,” said Santos, for whom the City Hall wanted with this gesture to repay all the effort made during 2019.
