COVID-19/Sal Island: City Hall promotes “Sal Fest Online” project to support artists who lost income

Espargos, May 20 (Inforpress) – The mayor of Sal presented today the “Sal Fest Online” project to support local artists who lost income due to COVID-19, and should be developed in partnership with the Sal Musicians Association ( AMS).

Considering the constraints that Cabo Verde is experiencing in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is plaguing the world and which the country has not escaped, with health and financial impacts, the mayor said that the situation led the City Hall to make some decisions.

Sharing these audacities with the press, at the signing of the agreement with the Sal Musicians Association (AMS), with a view to perform the “Sal Fest Online”, the mayor revealed, however, the “negative” impact in terms of City Hall revenues, motivated by the pandemic, should be around 150 million escudos.

“Many government revenues, namely tourist fees and others, may not come because the hotels are closed (…). Therefore, there is a major financial constraint. And, for ethical reasons, it would be unacceptable to be holding important events, such as the Santa Maria festival, Noite de Guitarra, for example”, he justified.
