COVID-19/Fogo: Agua para Viver Association mobilized 2.4 million escudos to support 600 families on the island

São Filipe, May 18 (Inforpress) – The Agua para Viver Association mobilized 22.000 Euro, just over 2.4 million Cabo Verdean escudos, from its partners in the Netherlands, to support 600 vulnerable families in the three municipalities of Fogo Island.

The amount mobilized in the Netherlands, where the association created in the late 1970s has its headquarters and has mobilized resources for several projects implemented on the island for years, has already been transferred and next week the food baskets will be distributed to families.

One of the association members in Fogo Island, Adolfo Rodrigues, said that given the devastating impact of COVID-19 pandemic has on the daily lives of many families in Cabo Verde and particularly in Fogo Island, this non-governmental organization mobilized this amount with two of its partners to support families with  food baskets.

Altogether 600 families will be provided with food baskets, 440 in the municipality of São Filipe, which has the largest population, 100 in the Mosteiros and 60 in the Santa Catarina do Fogo.
