Cape Verde has a debt of 32 million euros with ECOWAS that needs to be paid – Deputy Orlando Dias

(Praia city, October 19, 2022 – Inforpress)The vice-president of the Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Orlando Dias, stated this Tuesday that Cape Verde has a debt in the order of 32 million euros related to the community tax that needs to be paid.

Orlando Dias made these statements to journalists at the end of the meeting held by the Cape Verdean delegation in the ECOWAS Parliament with the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, purposeful to discuss ways to strengthen Cape Verde's integration in this sub-regional organization.

According to that deputy of the Nation, elected by the ECOWAS Parliament, the reinforcement  of Cape Verde's integration into the Economic Community of West African States involves debt fulfillment, that is, the payment of the community tax that has dragged on “for many years, 15 or 20 years”.

“We came here to have a meeting with the President of the Republic fundamentally analyze the issues related to strengthening our integration into ECOWAS, economic and political integration, but the bottom line is Cape Verde&39;s non-compliance with the payment of the community fee, Cape Verde has a large debt of around 32 million euros [3.5 billion escudos]”, said the parliamentarian.
