Praia, 06 Mar. (Inforpress) – The Cape Verdean boxing team travels this Tuesday to Dakar, Senegal, with a team consisting of five athletes, a coach and a manager for the Africa Championship of Zone II, which runs from 08 the 12 of the current month.
Elisandro Silva, holder of the Zone II title, won in Freetown (Sierra Leone), in the 57 kg category. Márcio Monteiro, silver medal in the 60 kg, Edmilson Carvalho, title champion in the 63.5 kg, Hernâni Gomes, bronze in the 67 kg and Sifonelo Borges, champion of Zone II in the 86 kg, are the athletes that make up the national team.
The Cape Verdean coach of the modality, Adilson Varela, led the last training session for the squad this Monday afternoon, having regretted the fact of leaving two athletes on the ground. However, optimistic and confident in how the Cape Verde team can still surpass the feat achieved last year, in Sierra Leone, where he added four gold medals, two silver and one bronze.
He regretted, on the other hand, the fact that the selection could not include Cape Verdean judge Adilson Gomes distinguished as the Best Referee of the Zone II tournament in Freetown.
